Before Madonna. Before a legion of Madonna wanna-bees. Before Lady Gaga. There was the often imitated but never duplicated (and without due respect or credit ) — Grace Jones. She was the original, trend setting avant-garde female pop artist. Grace Jones released her first album in 1977 when Madonna was 19 yrs old, and six years prior to her explosive appearance on the pop scene. In 1985 and at the age of 37 years old, Grace Jones released her seventh album Slave to the Rhythm. Although time has softened her angular and iconic silhouette, the statuesque sexagenarian continues to pack venues of adoring fans worldwide with the same eccentricity that put her on the map back in the day.
